Who Are We?
The governing body is a group of up to 12 individuals, made up of parents, staff and members of the local community. We work on a voluntary basis to support the strategic leadership of the school. We have responsibilities for many different areas, including child welfare, staffing, curriculum, finance, premises and training. In addition, we also have oversight for specific curriculum areas.

What Do We Do?
The governing body is responsible for three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure that its money is spent well
The governors dedicate significant time and expertise on a 100% voluntary basis and are fully committed to the continued success of St John’s School.
“Governors provide good support as well as the healthy degree of challenge required of all governing bodies.”.. Ofsted 2016
The governing body has undergone positive changes since 2013-14 and now provides support and challenge to drive school improvement. Governor skills audits, evaluation and subsequent specific recruitment have provided a thorough spread of expertise and energy for highest performance.
