Spiritual development

Spiritual development is personal and will be different for everyone. Spirituality concerns a person’s relationship with themselves, with others, with God (or the transcendent), and with nature and the environment. Spirituality is not the same as having a religion or faith; a person can be spiritual without having a particular faith.

In keeping with our Christian Vision, we recognise that we are all created in God’s image and have a spiritual dimension to our existence. We nurture this through all we do, particularly through our passion to help children and adults to flourish and be able to make a  positive difference in God's amazing world.

At St John's, we talk to the children about spirituality using words such as awe and wonder, ows and wows and windows, mirrors and doors. The children are working with us to create a definition of spirituality.

Windows - Wonder: awareness of life’s wows, nows and ows (stop)

Mirrors-Reflecting alone or together on life’s big questions and answers (think)

Doors - Responding creatively which reflects our school vision and context  (go) Words, choices, music, actions, arts, courageous advocacy

When nurture and offer opportunities for spiritual growth and development throughout the curriculum. The opportunities can be planned or spontaneous and give children the opportunity to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

The document below shows some of the opportunities for spirituality at St John's.
